Doris Dakin Notice
Mrs Doris Ann Dakin, of Bolsover, has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, on July 1, 2019, aged 83.
Doris was resident in Bolsover all her life, working as a shorthand typist at the National Coal Board offices in Bolsover, first in the typing pool and later as secretary to one of the directors. It was here that she met her husband, Tony. After the birth of her two children, she retrained as a primary teacher, and worked at Northfield infant school in Mansfield Woodhouse until her retirement.
Doris was very artistic and enjoyed painting, needlework and all craft activities. She made beautiful cards to celebrate special occasions for family and friends. She had an interest in history, and had begun to trace back the family tree. For this she learnt to use a computer, and was the first person in the family to own an iPad. She also enjoyed keeping her garden neat and tidy. She won prizes for indoor bowling, and enjoyed outdoor activities such as playing croquet in her garden, as well as pitch and putt and walking in the Peak District.
Doris was the widow of the late Anthony (Tony) Dakin, to whom she was married for 59 years. She leaves a son David, a daughter Susan and a son-in-law Nigel, granddaughter Natalie and a grandson Nathan.
The funeral service will be held at Bolsover Parish Church, on Thursday July 18, 2019, at 1pm, followed by Chesterfield Crematorium, at 2.10pm.
Donations to Cancer Research.
Funeral directors: Stubbins & Hope Ltd, 55 High Street, Bolsover, Chesterfield (01246 823355).
