Terry Roddis Notice
Mr Terry Roddis, of Lower Pilsley, has passed away peacefully at Oaklands Nursing Home in Langwith, aged 80.
Born in Lower Pilsley, he was a lifelong resident of the village.
Terry, who was single, leaves a brother Tony, a sister-in-law Margaret and nieces Sarah and Clare.
He started work as a nursery gardener for Proctors of Brampton before moving to Wharmbys nursery in Lower Pilsley. He then became a postman and his voluntary work at Pilsley youth club led to him gaining employment as a child care officer at Greenacres residential home in Clay Cross. He latterly worked as a security officer at the Enthovens plant in Darley Dale.
Terry loved his home and garden and caring for his pet Cairn terriers. He helped dog breeder and judge Sue Braybrook in her work at dog shows. In younger years Terry played violin in Chesterfield Youth Orchestra and, following retirement, he was a member of Alfreton and district choir.
He particularly liked classical and Big Band music, attending concerts in Nottingham with his brother. Terry also enjoyed family holidays abroad and had visited China with his friend and neighbour Graham.
A funeral service is due to take place at Chesterfield Crematorium at 12.50pm on Tuesday May 21, with donations in memory of Terry going to Dementia UK.
Funeral directors: Jack Ellis & Son, 134 Rupert St, Pilsley, Chesterfield ( 01246 851197).
